What to do when migration is over

Once May has passed, bird activity slows down significantly.  Most birds have found a breeding area and become actively involved in nesting.  There are still quite a number of birds around.  They are just harder to see.  But just listen and you will hear them singing and proclaiming their territory.  They still come to feeders and soon they will bring their fledglings to feed.

As bird life begins to fade into the trees, there is something else that is beginning to appear in the fields, woods and meadows.  Butterflies.  As summer progresses, butterflies become more and more common.  They may not sing, like the birds, but their shapes, sizes and colours are just as magnificent.

So keep your eyes open.  Some butterflies are quite small and some can be almost as big as a chickadee.

Enjoy.
