A few pictures taken earlier this year in Texas

A trip to Texas in early May was interesting.  There was incredible birding every day of the trip.  I took lots of pictures.  I have posted some of them back during that time.  But just for the heck of it, I thought I would share a few more with the readers of this blog.

These pictures were taken on South Padre Island.  There are excellent areas on the island for “up-close” viewing of birds of all varieties, making it a photo-op heaven.

I took this picture of a TRI-COLOURED HERON at the World Birding Centre from the boardwalk.  Note the blue colour of the bill.  The bill turns blue during the breeding season.  The rest of the year it is yellowish.

I took this picture of a SNOWY EGRET also at the World Birding Centre.  Looking in the water, you can see the yellow feet.

This picture of a WESTERN TANAGER was taken at the South Padre Island Convection Centre.  The habitat around the convention centre is designed to attract birds for more “up-close” viewing and photography.

It is not often that we Canadians get to see PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS, especially at close range.  This picture was also taken at the convention centre.
