Ross’s Geese on Amiens Drive

Earlier this week, I received an email from Les Griffith.   He said the he had seen 7 Ross’s Geese in a flooded area along Amiens Drive.  I went out several times to try to locate the geese, but dipped each time.  But today I was successful.  This morning, and again this afternoon, they were seen on the south(?) side of Amiens Drive, between Glengyle and Ilderton Roads in the company of numerous Canada Geese.  Ross’ s Geese are uncommon in this area.  They are similar to Snow Geese, but a little smaller.  Click on this link to see a comparison.

If you drive out to see them, be careful.  There is not much room to pull off the road.  No real shoulder to speak of.  For those that come on the “bird trip” tomorrow, we will head there first thing to hopefully get a look at these geese.  It is impossible to say how long they will remain in the area.

A special thanks to Les for reporting this sighting.
